The 2009 summer season at Trinity Episcopal Church begins this Sunday, June 21, at 9 a.m. when the Rev. Dr. Timothy B. Cogan of Edgartown is celebrant.

The church, located across from the Steamship Authority in Oak Bluffs, is celebrating its 127th year of summer worship.

Rev. Cogan is chaplain emeritus of the Brooks School in North Andover, Mass., where he served for 17 years. Prior to that, he was the Episcopal chaplain at Princeton University. A Harvard graduate, he attended Virginia Seminary. He and his wife retired to Edgartown in 2002 after having summered here for 30 years. Now a member of St. Andrew’s Church, Edgartown, where he once served as interim priest, Rev. Cogan is also assistant priest at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda in Palm Beach, Fla. In 2004, he served as chaplain for the Easter term at Kings College, Cambridge University, England.

Trinity Episcopal Church offers a diverse and inspirational schedule of visiting clergy throughout the summer, from this weekend through Sunday, Sept. 13, and will celebrate the life of Bishop John Burgess with a service of Evensong on August 2. Among the eight celebrants to serve this summer are the Rev. William Heuss, who also serves as the priest-in-charge; the Right Rev. John P. Streit of the Episcopal cathedral in Boston; and the Rev. Canon Edward Rodman, of the Episcopal Divinity School. Also visiting are the Revs. Deborah Warner and Stephanie Spellers.
