I can’t believe a year has gone by and I didn’t report to you on the lovely engagement party and wedding I attended last June. So, on their one year anniversary let’s hear it for Richard and Bonna Whitten-Stovall’s daughter, Lindsey Ericka Whitten-Stovall, who married Sarah Hope Newton last June 14. The engagement party was held at Richard and Bonna’s beautiful, flower-filled home last June 11, attended by family, neighbors, and friends. The food was delectable, the music terrific, the energy high. Lindsey and Sarah were offered a three day honeymoon in New York, but chose to spend their wedding trip right here on our storybook Island. The ladies live in Clarksville, Tenn., which recognizes all out-of-state marriages. Sarah is a lieutenant in the Nashville sheriff’s department, Lindsey is an animal groomer. Lindsey was actually offered a promotion to manager but turned it down, preferring to be hands on with her beloved clientele. The last news I heard was they were busy campaigning for family membership at their local gym. Here’s hoping these beautiful women come back to visit soon. May they live happily ever after.

Walter and Gail Burke had daughter Jennifer Burke and her husband, Fred Adams, visiting over Memorial Day week. The delight was three-year-old Olivia who spent her time at the Flying Horses, the beach, the Memorial Day parade, and bonded with Gram and Grandpa during the week Jennifer left her to attend a concert. The family lives in West Springfield, not too far for another summer visit.

One of my good buddies and former Cub Scout den member, Stephen Dunham, graduated from SUNY Purchase on May 15. Dad, Big Steve, flew in from South Dakota. Mom Carol Giles rushed down from Maine, then trotted back to attend her own graduation in Maine the next day. Carol received an associate’s degree in accounting, was chosen student of the year, and spoke at her commencement. Young Stephen earned a B.A. in liberal studies with a concentration in natural and social sciences. Stephen is the first in his family to graduate from a four year program, and he did it in four years! Grandma Martha Dunham drove down with Aunt Jennifer, Uncle Jeremy showed up and it was a very emotional moment for the whole family. Stephen’s sister Becca could not attend as she is finishing up her year of studying in Germany. Congratulations, Stephen!

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Pothier family on the death of Jena. I had Jena as a student in school, always polite, helpful, and dear. We shall miss her greatly.
