We have enjoyed two days of sun. Now we will have to wait for another break as the forecast does not look good for the next week. But make the best of it with all the events going on. Just check today’s Gazette calendar page.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ashton Bartok and Gabriella Carlos Silva who celebrated their day June 14; Jackson Crocker, Julia Crocker and Owen Hess on June 15; Jackson Pizzano on June 17; and to Jason Lages, Sara Poggi, and Meghan Sawyer who all celebrate their day today, June 19.

Special wishes go out to Sandy Alestra and Corrine Rogers who celebrated their day, June 13; Jane Carroll and Kevin Searle on June 16; and Kelley Henry who celebrated June 17.

Happy anniversary to Mike and Janice Donaroma who celebrated their 26th anniversary on June 15.

I can’t believe that the Fourth of July will be here in two weeks. There are many events going on between now and then. The town is getting ready for the parade and the flags are beginning to fly as we just passed Flag Day on June 14.

There will be a July 4 raw bar at the Anchors overlooking the harbor in Edgartown. The benefit event is sponsored by the Friends of the Edgartown Council on Aging and the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group. Enjoy the oysters and the clams after the parade (6 to 8 p.m.).

If you have gone by the old Malcolm Kenniston home you will notice a lot of planting going on and some renovations. There will be a decorator show house and gardens tour on June 28 through Oct. 18. The location is 105 Main street. If you want more information you can phone 508-939-4114. This is a benefit for Habitat for Humanity of Martha’s Vineyard.

Congratulations to all our seniors on their new journey in life. It was a great day and the sun came out just in time.

Edgartown residents Katrina Nevin, Alison Taylor and her daughter Kathryn Antonsson are featured in the musical which is playing at the Sailing Camp Friday, June 19 at 12:30 p.m. as well as at the Katharine Cornell Theatre from June 25 to 28. Jeff Enos designed the lighting for the production.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Jena Pothier who lost her life in the tragic car accident last week. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family of Kelly McCarron who was also in the accident and has been a patient at Mass General.

Congratulations to Ryan and Angela Welch, who welcomed daughter Keira Rose Welch to their family on May 16. Keira weighed 8 pounds, 16 ounces and was 21 inches long. Keira is also welcomed by her big brother Liam Welch. Grandparents are Lee and Cheryl Welch and Norman and Margaret Rankow.

Keira will make her first trip to the Island to help with the celebration of Father’s Day this weekend.

Christmas is always special, but this Christmas Ted Morgan received one of the best presents one can receive. His children presented Ted tickets to attend the 65th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. So on June 3, Ted’s son Tim, son in law Michael Dolby, all veterans, and Mike’s son Chris Dolby all started on what was to be an amazing trip. There were many ceremonies, and lots of pictures. Ted had many pictures taken holding babies, shook a lot of hands and talked to many other veterans who were there the same time he was all those years ago. There will be many stories to tell and it was a trip they will long remember.

Congratulations to the 2009 graduates of the Edgartown School who will be graduating tonight at the Whaling Church.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
