The Vineyard Playhouse will audition for its summer Shakespeare performance — this year it will be The Taming of the Shrew — on Saturday, May 16, from noon to 4 p.m. at the playhouse on Church street in Vineyard Haven. It will be directed by Johanna McKeon.

Actors may arrive at the audition any time during the scheduled hours and sign up for an appointment that day. Everyone who comes to the audition will be seen. Actors should come prepared to perform a short (under two minutes) Shakespearean monologue from any play.

The playhouse is seeking young non-equity actors of all ethnic backgrounds, with access to housing on Martha's Vineyard.

The show will run outdoors at the Tisbury Amphitheatre July 22 to August 9 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. There are 15 scheduled performances; rain dates unconfirmed.

A rehearsal schedule will be set by the stage manager as soon as the casting is complete. All rehearsals (unless it's raining) will be held at the Tisbury Amphitheatre. For principal roles, expect approximately 20 to 30 hours per week to be scheduled during daylight hours

For supporting roles, expect about 20 hours per week for rehearsals. Approximately 20 hours per week to be scheduled during daylight hours. No Sunday rehearsals.

This will be a highly energetic show, rehearsed and performed outdoors. This means roughing it: bottled water, bug spray and Porto-potties.
