The Dukes County Commission is looking for dedicated residents interested in filling a wide range of important volunteer positions.

Some 30 positions are up for reappointment effective March 1. Terms are being shifted to start on the first of March and end the last day of February to comply with the new requirement adopted by the county commissioners as recommended by the charter study commission.

“Many of our incumbent volunteers are doing a very good job and we expect many to apply for reappointment. Nevertheless we want to encourage all interested citizens to apply for these important positions.” said commission chairman Les Leland in a prepared statement.

Appointments that expired on Dec. 31 are being extended until the last day of February. The positions available as of March 1 are: associate commissioner for affairs concerning handicapped persons (one year), associate commissioner for affairs concerning the elderly (one year), associate commissioner for public health (one year), associate commissioner for youth affairs (one year), emergency management director (one year), 19 members of the Dukes County Health Council (one or two-year terms), delegate to the Pilgrim RC& D Area Council Inc. (one year), Martha’s Vineyard Airport Commission, three members (three-year terms) and one member to fill an unexpired term (one year), Dukes County Regional Housing Authority (three-year term).

Box 190, Edgartown, MA 02539. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 6.
