Clare Stuart McLean and Peter Caleb Hedley were married on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The Rev. John D. Schule presided.

The bride, 27, graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Bank Street College of Education. She is a teacher at the Peck School in Morristown, N.J. She is the daughter of Robert and Susan McLean of Ambler, Pa. Her father is a senior vice president with UBS. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Grant McCargo of Edgartown, and the late Donald G. McLean. Her paternal great-grandfather, a former president and longest serving director of the Associated Press, was also the publisher of the Philadelphia Bulletin and the Santa Barbara News Press companies. She is also a desendent of Charles Evans Hughes, former Chief Justice of the United States.

The bridegroom, 30, graduated from Lafayette College and is a real estate consultant with CB Richard Ellis in Florham Park, N.J. He is the son of David V.H. and Michele Hedley of Morristown, N.J. and Edgartown. The bridegroom’s father is a retired managing director of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenerette. He served on President Bush’s National Finance Committee and is a former Trustee of Pine Manor College and a former chairman of the board of Morristown Beard School. His mother is a director of the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust.

The couple met on Martha’s Vineyard and spent every childhood summer in Edgartown.
