Degrees

Two Oak Bluffs residents recently received degrees from Simmons College in Boston. They are Morning Star Tarter, who received a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and Whitney Burke, who received a master’s degree in library and information science.

Dean’s List

Emmeline C. Brown of Oak Bluffs has been named to second honors on the dean’s list at Clark University in Worcester.

Ms. Brown, a member of Clark University’s class of 2010, studies studio art. She attended Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

James L. Chambers of Edgartown has been named to the dean’s list at the New England Institute of Technology in Warwick, R.I.

Mallory Fauteux of Edgartown has been named to the dean’s list for the 2008 spring semester at Mount Ida College in Newton.

Kate E. FitzGerald of Chilmark was named to the dean’s list at Bates College in Lewiston, Me., as a result of her scholastic standing during the second semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

A sophomore Spanish major, she is a 2005 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School. She is the daughter of Charles FitzGerald and Kathryn Cerick.

Anna L. Markwica of Edgartown was named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the spring 2008 semester.

Michael C. Pachico, son of Charles and Kim Pachico of Chilmark, has been listed on the dean’s list at Bridgewater State College in the School of Arts and Science for the spring 2008 semester.

Henry Peacor has been named to the dean’s list at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. for the academic year 2007-2008. He is the son of M.L. Peacor of Vineyard Haven and Mark Peacor of Santa Monica, Calif.

Several Vineyard students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Bentley College in Waltham.

They are Christopher T. Scott of Edgartown, a senior majoring in management; Julian Cameron Hickman of Vineyard Haven, a senior majoring in accountancy; and Jennifer Ross Reekie of West Tisbury, a junior majoring in management.

Three Vineyard residents have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Merrimack College in North Andover. They are Timothy L. McHugh of Edgartown and Joseph K. Tierney 3rd and Joshua D. Wild of Vineyard Haven.

Three students from the Vineyard have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt.

They are Christina M. Colley of Oak Bluffs, daughter of Carlos and Joanne Colley, a sophomore psychology and elementary education major; Michael R. Giordano of Oak Bluffs, the son of Richard and Nancy Giordano, a junior business administration major; and Matthew M. Seklecki of Vineyard Haven, the son of Daniel Seklecki and Catherine MacDonald, a first-year political science major.

Two Vineyard students were named to the dean’s list at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., for the spring 2008 semester. They are senior Kayla Leonard, an anthropology and sociology major from Oak Bluffs, and senior David Mercaldo, a legal studies and foreign language major from Vineyard Haven.

A number of Vineyard residents have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for the spring 2008 semester.

They are Emma R. Lovewell, Jenny L. Partridge and Carlos J. Ventura Jr. of Edgartown, James A. Rebello of Oak Bluffs, and Ruby R. Hoy and Julius B. Lowe of Vineyard Haven.

Two Vineyard Haven residents have been named to the dean’s honors list for the spring semester at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H. They are Kayla Rose Mastromonaco, a junior majoring in psychology, and Paige Aurora McCarthy, a junior majoring in theatre arts.

Two Vineyard residents were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

They are Jennifer Chang of Vineyard Haven and Wendy Gibson of Edgartown.

Receives Degree

Fiona Lee MacLean of Oak Bluffs was awarded a bachelor of arts degree from Connecticut College in New London, Conn., at the college’s 90th commencement ceremony on May 18.

Ms. MacLean received a degree with distinction in environmental studies and graduated cum laude. She is a 2004 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and the daughter of Elizabeth and Peter MacLean of Oak Bluffs.

Thomas E. Stackpole of West Tisbury received a bachelor of arts degree in political science in May from Bates College in Lewiston, Me.

Mr. Stackpole studied in Ifrane, Morocco, during the winter of 2007. A 2004 graduate of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, he is the son of Matthew and Martha Stackpole.

Lillian Rose Walter, daughter of Jan Pogue and John Walter of Edgartown, graduated cum laude from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., in May with a bachelor of arts in anthropology and women’s studies.

Receives Degree

Scott R. Yapp of West Tisbury has graduated cum laude from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., with a bachelor of fine arts degree in computer art. He minored in entrepreneurship.

Honor Roll

Julia S. MacNelly of West Tisbury, a member of the class of 2009 at Phillips Academy in Andover, has been named to the honor roll for the spring term.

Students Graduate

Two students from Edgartown graduated from Boston University in May. They are Jeffrey R. Ciceroni, who received a bachelor of arts in history, and Scott T. Goldin, who received a bachelor of arts in psychology.

Receives Scholarship

Comcast has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Rachel Schubert of Vineyard Haven, a graduating senior at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

She received the scholarship under the company’s Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program, which annually recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service.
