Next Wednesday will be a big day at Logan Airport in Boston. Bob and Carol Clark are pleased to announce that daughter Lynn and her husband, Philip Dwane, will be there with family — Ryan, 17, Ben, 13, and Brandon, 11 — to greet their new additions to the family. Being escorted from Kazakhstan are 5-year-old Anya and her 3-year-old brother, Aran.

Carol has just returned from a month up Island at the Dwane’s West Tisbury home, supervising the three older brothers while Lynn and Philip were in Kazakhstan arranging for the adoption. Carol has seen many pictures of the kids. Of course, they are adorable. Welcome to the Island and our hearts, Anya and Aran.

Get out your appointment books because we have a busy week coming up.

I’ll see you there.

The Vineyard Haven library’s evening lecture series continues on Tuesday, August 12 at 7 p.m. with Elaine Pace, discussing her new book. The title is captivating: Island Home: Why People Come to Martha’s Vineyard. Elaine, a washashore herself, has interviewed fishermen, artists, musicians, ministers, and people from other walks of life who made the move here. All evening lectures are free.

Children ages 4 and up may eat popcorn and attend a free movie at the library on Wednesday, August 13 at 3 p.m. Drop-in crafts center at the library is open for ages 5 and up on Thursday, August 14. Have your youngster begin creating an entry for the fair.

Iole and I attended a wonderful Brazilian birthday party last Tuesday night at the home of Ana Cecilio in honor of her friend, Silvio. Ana served scrumptious food, as is her wont. My mother especially loved the coxinhas. Pastor John was there with his guitar. Except for Nonna and me, all the guests, Andre, Edinolva, Josemaria, Maria, and Ana’s 5-year-old daughter, Keissila, knew all the words to all the songs that John played. We did recognize Happy Birthday in Portuguese — hard to miss that. We wish the best to Silvio for the coming year, and always.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Michael Robinson, Jon McIntosh, Milly Berman and Danae Finley today. August 9 is a party for Sal Alfano, Vitor Mouzinho and Riley Chalifoux. August 10 is claimed by Jennifer Benson. August 11 belongs to Clare Ann Harrington and Linda Carroll. August 12 honors Emma Keppeler, Karen Kassius and Sharon Robinson. And on August 13, Patti Diamond takes the cake. Many happy returns.
