The Chappaquiddick Summer Music Festival continues its 2008 season on Thursday, July 31 at 8 p.m. with a performance by Trio Solisti. The program includes Copland’s Hoe-Down, Schoenfield’s Cafe Music, Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, and the trio’s highly acclaimed arrangement of Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition.

Comprised of three brilliant instrumentalists — violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach and pianist Jon Klibonoff — Trio Solisti has earned a national reputation for its passionate, committed and adventurous performances marked by exquisite individuality of expression and seamless ensemble playing. These qualities have drawn high praise from such journals as The New York Times (“consistently brilliant... and compelling.”) and The Washington Post (“...zealous abandon in a transcendent performance.”) The Trio’s cutting edge verve and mastery across a wide spectrum of styles has garnered superlatives not often encountered in the piano trio genre. This versatility also extends to new music, most notably to the works of 2004 Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Moravec.

Highlights of the trio’s current season include performances at The Kennedy Center (Dec. 2009) where they make their debut on the prestigious Fortas Chamber Series, at New York’s Merkin Hall, and at numerous festivals including The Caramoor Festival, The Moab Festival in Utah, Maverick Concerts and Cooperstown Festivals in New York, Grand Canyon Festival and Telluride MusicFest. Trio Solisti is the founding ensemble of Telluride MusicFest which celebrated its sixth anniversary in 2008. The trio performs with many guest artists at Telluride MusicFest; in 2008, Philip Glass performed several of his own works with violinist Maria Bachmann.

Tickets ($18/$16 seniors) are available at the door or in advance at the Chappaquiddick Community Center. There will be a free shuttle from the Chappy ferry beginning at 7:30 p.m. and returning after the concert. A reception follows, and everyone is invited to attend.
