Arnold Zack and Leslie Haughton Zemsky will have their Show of Landscapes by a Pair of Aquinnah Friends, with the opening reception today at the Bank of Martha’s Vineyard at Beetlebung Corner from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Aquinnah Music Festival will be held on Saturday, July 19 from noon to 9 p.m. at Aquinnah Circle. Tickets are $25 each. Parking is available at the Moshup Trail lot or save gas money as the Vineyard Transit Authority bus will drop you off right at the circle on their hourly schedule. There will be an eclectic mix of Vineyard musicians throughout the day. The event is for the benefit of community radio station WVVY, which broadcasts at 93.7 FM.
The Aquinnah community programs committee will be sponsoring a flea market at the town hall on Sunday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For further information or to reserve a table space, please call Betty Joslow at 508-645-3340.
The Aquinnah Public Library will feature Elizabeth Post Mirel on Thursday, July 24 at 5 p.m. with a discussion of her newly revised book, Plum Crazy: A Book About Beach Plums.
Thank you to town highway department director Forrest Alley who cleared out the town pound on State Road. With the historical significance of the pound, it is gratifying to see that it has been cleared of all the overgrown brush and debris.
Thank you to Selectman Spencer A. Booker for clearing out the overgrowth of brush to the Aquinnah access to Squibnocket Pond. After about 15 years of growth being removed, it is encouraging to see not only the gate but also the path once again.
Thank you to Bret P. Stearns, director of natural resources department for the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), who has once again secured an ambulance for Tri-Town Ambulance through Indian Health Service. Within 30 days, we can expect the arrival of a 2002 ambulance with only 58,000 miles on it. The town and the tribe have decided to donate the previous ambulance to the West Tisbury Dive Team, as it could not pass certification to be an ambulance any longer.
Mark Harding, his wife Paula Peters and their daughters Rhiannon and Savannah of Mashpee have arrived for a stay at their Aquinnah home.
Bill and Joan Kistner arrived Saturday for a one-week visit with our grandson Noah James Manning. While here, they will assist Paul and Theresa, who have had an exceptionally busy past four weeks.
Get-well wishes to Gwen Nichols, the “bead lady,” who has arrived from her winter home in Florida accompanied by Jason. Get-well wishes to her cousin Lisa Nichols who has also been ill over the past week. They are both recuperating with the assistance of Candy Nichols and perhaps we can all anticipate a wellness afternoon at the Morris camp on Dogfish Bar.
Jan Tracy and her mother Anne Haughton returned to their home in Florida on Tuesday after a two-week stay at their Rockspring home. They anticipate another visit in the autumn if possible.
Friends of Aquinnah Public Library held their annual meeting and social on the new porch at the library on Sunday afternoon.
