The New England Conservatory of Music’s Millennium Gospel Choir perform Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at The Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs. Admission is by freewill donation.

Established in the year 2000, the Millennium Gospel Choir was conceived as a way to bring together some of the area’s best known ministers of music and a diverse body of gospel singers whose actions demonstrate that they serve God, both spiritually and musically. Their common purpose: to praise, worship and glorify God with their whole hearts through gospel and spiritual music expressions. That year, under the auspices of Calvin Hicks, director of the conservatory’s department of community collaborations, 200 anointed musicians were handpicked to sing with gospel recording artist Richard Smallwood.

Since 2000, the Millennium Gospel Choir continues to be one of the areas’ most diverse and requested choirs. Multicultural, ethnic and generational (ranging from ages 16 to 82), the choir reflects more than 30 regional churches.

This evening, under the direction of James A. Early and Renese King and assisted by Patricia Dance, members of the NEC Millennium Gospel Choir will render songs of praise, worship, and prayer.
