Here we are at the Fourth of July weekend. The Island is getting busier, the lines are getting longer at the Stop & Shop and the traffic is back at the Triangle.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their birthday this past week.

Kim Carter, a student of Northeastern University, will be studying abroad this summer. Her travels will take her to Spain and Turkey. Last summer she studied in China. Kim is the daughter of Jim and Debbie Carter. She is majoring in health science.

Congratulations to Greg and Amy Swartz Ellrodt, who became the proud parents of a baby boy, Charles William, on June 28. Charles came into the world weighing 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 19 inches long. The proud grandparents are Russell and Joyce Swartz, and Linda and Richard Ellrodt.

Congratulations to Katie Mayhew of West Tisbury who will be singing with the Boston Pops tonight in Boston. Katie was among 200 students from Massachusetts to try out for this honor. Those who attend the school’s concerts and plays are familiar with this young lady and her powerful voice. We are all proud of you, Katie, and we will be listening to you tonight.

Ben Taylor and David Saw will perform with special friends and family at Balance on Monday, July 14, at $100 a ticket. The event includes a dinner and a show to benefit the MSPCA. Doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktails and dinner at 7 p.m., with the show to follow. To purchase tickets call Balance at 508-696-3000 or the MSPCA at 508-627-8662.

Happy Fourth of July. Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
