Aquinnah selectmen last Friday set a special town meeting for August 7 to reconsider a bylaw for the Island’s first energy district of critical planning concern.

The bylaw, which would regulate alternative energy use in town, specifically the use of wind power, failed to achieve a two-thirds majority vote by four votes at the annual town meeting on July 19.

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission designated the energy DCPC in December of 2008. A townwide building moratorium remains in place pending a vote on the energy bylaw.

Selectmen said the two-article warrant will be limited to discussion of the bylaw.

In other business at a special meeting Friday morning the board set Thursday, August 14 as the date for a nonvoter resident summer town meeting. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

Selectmen also have temporarily taken over the duties of the town finance committee until replacements can be found for John Walsh and Isaac Taylor. Mr. Walsh has resigned and Mr. Taylor did not seek reelection. That leaves only one committee member, Darren Leport.

The tri-town ambulance service will receive a used ambulance within two months at no cost from the federal Indian Health Service. The vehicle will be provided to the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) which will designate it for use by the ambulance service.
