A four-part, hands-on digital photo restoration class begins next week at the high school.

Participants will learn how to digitally restore and reprint damaged, fading snapshots; scan and make enlargements from negatives and slides of all sizes and formats; learn how to use Adobe Photoshop CS3 to digitally retouch and restore images; master the use of film and flatbed scanners; and make detailed enlargements for print or for the Web.

Participants are encouraged to bring in their own faded, damaged, or antique photographic prints and film to work from. All levels of experience are welcome.

Instructor Chris Baer is a technology instructor at the high school. His restored antique photographs of the Island are on exhibit throughout the Mansion House, in several issues of Vineyard Style magazine, and on his Web site at history.vineyard.net.

The class will meet four Thursday evenings, March 27 to April 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room D402 of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

The 12-hour workshop costs $250. Class size is limited to 12 students. For details, contact cbaer@vineyard.net or call 508-696-8797.
