Island Grown Initiative is pleased to announce the winners of the first annual Island Grown special award at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Science Fair. The award goes to students whose projects focus on agricultural systems and techniques that support biodiversity and human health or address local agricultural systems on the Vineyard.

The winners are Naomi Scott for her project titled Fruit Fly Don’t Bother Me: A Study of Non-Organic and Organic Fruits’ Affect on Drosophilia Melanogaster, and Nik Wojkeielo for his study titled How Pesticides Affect Bee Behavior.

These two projects address IGI’s core mission of both supporting local farming operations and advancing consumer awareness about the importance of buying locally-produced foods.
