What can I say? It is winter and we have had everything we can have in one week. On Monday we woke up to a beautiful blanket of white and the plows running to keep the streets open. Then Tuesday night we started with the rain and it went into Wednesday, dissolving the snow. The only reminder is the piles the plows made. Now the wind is howling and tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm. Welcome to New England.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ryan Gosson who celebrated his day on Jan. 19, to Kylie Fauteux and Jared Rivard who celebrated Jan. 24, to Alec Cobban and Quinn Cobban who celebrated their day Jan. 25, to Kara Steigelman who celebrated on Jan. 27 and to Mercer Kelly who celebrated his day Jan. 30.

Ralph and I were driving home from Vineyard Haven the other night and it was around five o’ clock. That is the Island’s rush hour. We commented that it wasn’t long ago when you would drive home from the city, as I call it, and you were lucky if you passed six cars. Now there is a stream of lights. Time sure does change.

On Nov. 13, Stephen Perry and Sagi Woodman embarked on a journey of their lives. They flew to Australia and spent two months there. They enjoyed New Year’s Eve in Sydney and celebrated the first hours of the New Year. Then it was on to New Zealand where they spent two weeks. Now they are in Bali and then on to a month in Thailand. They are expected to be home in April. Stephen’s mother Brenda said they have downloaded more than a thousand pictures and have lots of tales to tell. Oh, to be young again.

This is the big weekend. The game should be a good one. Whatever you do, have a safe Super Bowl and if you have too much to drink, hand your keys to a friend or call a cab. Go Pats!

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
