Community Baptist Church of Gay Head will host the Martha’s Vineyard Neighborhood Convention on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 10:45 a.m. at the tribal building on Black Brook Road. The topic will be Keepers of Our Ancient Cliffs. Please feel free to bring your brown bag lunch to the discussion. Dessert and beverages will be provided.

Tyler Bellis of Masset, British Columbia, made a surprise visit to Aquinnah this past week. The occasion was the formal announcement of his engagement to Carrie Anne Vanderhoop.

Get-well wishes to Ralph Case, who is looking better under the care of his wife Kathie Case when I saw them for a brief moment on Monday.

Leo Irrera and his wife Eva have been enjoying the warmth of the autumn at their Aquinnah home.

Ken Kauffman and his wife Corinna Majno returned to their home in California on Saturday after spending the week at her family home. On Thursday evening, they entertained Marcella Brown, John Walsh, Craig of Craig’s Bicycles, Julianne Vanderhoop-Mahoney and yours truly for a brainstorming session regarding the Orange Peel Bakery. Our primary accomplishment was the fact that Juli really needs to find a set of French doors to complement her bakery. Corinna was also very intrigued with Luther and Anne Madison’s Pies to Go, which they sell from their home as a family business as well just up the road.

Arlen Roth and his bride Maria have recently returned from their honeymoon and drove all the way from New York in his 1953 Hudson Hornet, which is a warm yellow with a light blue roof. They were accompanied home by their cutest little dachshund, Pepe. It is difficult to determine whether Arlen has more guitars or more antique automobiles in his vast collections of both. Arlen is proud of his new album, Toolin Around, which includes Levon Helm and other guest stars. On Thursday evening, Maria and his daughter Lexie entertained friends for Arlen’s birthday bash.

Condolences to Megan, Ana, and Christian Sargent in the loss of their husband, father, and uncle William Sargent who recently died in Rhode Island. Services were held on Saturday for Bill, who formerly owned the Gay Head Gallery.

Get-well wishes to Emily Q. Vanderhoop, who is once again a patient at Massachusetts General Hospital. She would welcome cards as her visitors are limited at this time.

I was rather astounded this week when the home just down the road of the late Charles and Phyllis Stephens was torn down. The home has been a part of my life for decades and fond remembrances of those who resided there. After Charles and Phyllis Stephens, it belonged to the Hogan family, and ultimately that of the late Archbishop Iacovos. Who knows if Echo Hill will ever be the same once a new structure is built?

Waylon Sauer, son of Dan and Wenonah Madison, celebrated his first birthday on Sunday, Oct. 28 with a party that welcomed family and friends for the big occasion.

Celebrating birthdays this week were Amy Rogers, Paul Henry Mayhew, Dolly Noble, the Rev. Thomas O’Quinn, Capt. Buddy Vanderhoop, Kathy Newman, Arlen Roth and Carla Cuch.

Happy birthday to Debbie Bramkamp, who celebrated yesterday. Chief Ryan Malonson will celebrate his special day today. Janice Cook Sylvia will party on Saturday. Melissa Vanderhoop Abrams will party on Sunday and shares the day with James Willis. Elizabeth Witham will celebrate on Monday. Rachel Zack will party on Tuesday, and our beloved paramedic Nick Thorne celebrates on Wednesday.
