Last Thursday Anna and I headed down to Hobe Sound, Fla., to meet up with Denise Mount and her husband Don Evon and stay at her condo for a week. The weather was positively balmy, with highs in the 80s each day and low temperatures in the mid 70s in the evenings. We visited Palm Beach, Juniper, Stuart and many other locations. We dined out at fine restaurants every night. Their tourist season is about to begin around the first of the month. We both enjoyed ourselves and celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.

Dan and Nancy Cabot of Middle Road are back in residence at Glimmerglass after a great trip to five National Parks (Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon). Dan drove a rental car 2,100 miles (about 600 of that inside parks) from Bozeman, Mont., to Las Vegas, Nev. Dan reports that they had a great time vacationing.

In July of 1947 Lieut. John Wesley Mayhew Jr. of the U.S. Naval Reserves, son of Mrs. John Mayhew, received the permanent citation for the Gold Star in lieu of his third Air Medal from James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy on behalf of the President of the United States. Lieutenant Mayhew, who was released from active duty and later completed his studies at Brown University, earned the award by taking part in five combat missions against the Japanese forces in the Bougainville area and during the New Georgia campaign. The citation read in part “For meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a pilot and section leader in Fighting Squadron 21 during operations against the enemy in the South Pacific War Area from June 21 to August 3, 1943.”

Well, that is all of the social news for this week’s edition. Since I was out of town, there was very little time for me to report anything but I shall try to be more informative next week. If you have any news please call or e-mail me. Have a great week.
