On Saturday, Oct. 6, everyone is invited to join the fourth annual Justin Coleman Memorial Hike-a-thon. The 10-mile hike begins at the Coleman’s house on 150 South Road in Chilmark. This year, the hike also will be in memory of Alex Cohen, a friend of Justin’s who died in an automobile accident driving from Martha’s Vineyard to Duke University at the age of 19.

Barbara and Tom Faurino are the guest speakers of the hike. They will speak at noon, right before hikers set off, at the Coleman’s house. Barbara and Tom’s son David died in a car accident in 2004. In his memory they have a foundation called Martha’s Vineyard Drive for Life that has made it possible for every high school student on the Vineyard to get driver’s training. They are working to get David’s Law passed, so every driver in the state will have driver’s training available to them.

Hikers will walk to Hancock Beach, along the shore to Lucy Vincent Beach and back. Registration and speeches are at noon; step-off for hikers is at 12:30 p.m. The event is free for all hikers. In past years the event has raised $26,000 for charity. For details online justincoleman.org or call 508-645-2261.
