Tisbury school students wearing hats, bearing flowers. Anthony Esposito

Following long-standing tradition, students from Chilmark, Edgartown and Tisbury schools marched to the sea Friday afternoon. Bearing flowers and flags, they walked through their respective towns to toss flowers in the water in honor of Memorial Day.

Chilmark School students read a Memorial Day poem and traveled to Dutcher Dock in Menemsha on foot and by school bus. Edgartown students sang songs and tossed flowers into Edgartown Harbor from Memorial Wharf. In Tisbury, students marched through town carrying flowers, some sporting patriotic hats. Their destination was Owen Park.

Do you plan to cover the other Island's elementary schools or just Edgartown as usual? A shame you left out pictures of the soldiers that attended in the other towns.
