HEALTH AGENT

The Town of Edgartown is accepting applications for the position of Health Agent. This position works under the general oversight and direction of the Board of Health in accordance with State, Federal and Local laws, rules, and regulations.

This is a professional, administrative, and supervisory position as well as a technical position performing inspections, planning, and managing the town’s public health program, overseeing and conducting disease surveillance and control programs, promoting and governing safe and sanitary housing conditions, protection of the environment from damage and pollution through education, administration, and enforcement of public health laws and regulations.

The Health Agent supervises up to two full time staff as well as participating in the shared supervision of three grant-funded positions serving all Martha’s Vineyard Boards of Health through a regional grant.

The Health Agent’s work consists of the practical application of a variety of concepts, practices, and specialized techniques relating to a professional or technical field in the areas of public health and environmental protection.

The employee may be required to work outside of normal business hours and/or on weekends in response to emergencies, special events, or to attend various board or committee meetings.

Educational and experience requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health or Biological Sciences or related field; three to five years of experience in public health with at least two years in an administrative capacity involving State environmental or public health code inspections and enforcement; including the State sanitary code, on-site wastewater disposal, solid waste disposal, air and water quality; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications or licenses required: must hold or be qualified to take the exams for Registered Sanitarian or Certified Health Officer, Certified Soil Evaluator, Certified Septic System Inspector, Lead Determinator, Food Safety Manager certification and hold a valid driver’s license.

Town of Edgartown seeks Local Building Inspector to assist the Building Commissioner in enforcing the Massachusetts Building Code and Town of Edgartown Zoning By-Laws. Position requires at least five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design, or in the alternative a two-year associate degree in a field related to building construction or design, or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability.

Additionally, must have a general knowledge of the quality and strength of building materials; a general knowledge of the accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation and safe exits; and a general knowledge of other equipment and materials essential for safety, comfort, and convenience of the occupants of a building or structure, and any regulatory energy requirements.

High school diploma, valid Massachusetts driver’s license and Construction Supervisor’s License required. Applicant must be certified as Local Building Inspector or able to meet specified requirements to obtain certification within time limits set by Massachusetts State Building Code.

Part time, or per-diem LPN or RN Nursing position for the Dukes County Sheriff's Office. This job involves complex administrative and staff work of a professional nature which concerns supervising the health care services function, as defined under 103 CMR 932.00 for the Sheriff of Dukes County. The Correctional Nurse provides administrative and professional nursing services of the Health Services division of the Jail and House of Correction under the direction of the Health Authority and the Assistant Deputy Superintendent (ADS) for Human Services. Responsible for providing direct nursing care, treatment, and rehabilitation to inmate patients; assists physicians as directed. Takes independent action within professional and legal limits and performs related nursing duties as assigned; trains correctional staff as necessary. High School Diploma or equivalent required, experience in working with the public and at least three years of relevant experience in the medical field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Massachusetts license in nursing is required. TISBURY HARBORMASTER

The Martha’s Vineyard Commission (MVC) is now accepting applications for transportation planning internship positions in the transportation department for the Summer 2024 season (May/June to August 2024). Responsibilities include the installation and retrieval of traffic counting equipment, management of the traffic count database, preparation of summary reports and office support, and conduct turning movement counts at select Martha’s Vineyard intersections and businesses, as part of the Regional Transportation Planning Process and Local Technical Assistance Program.

Most planning internships require some relevant coursework in the planning field along with an interest in the planning profession and relevant planning specifications. Depending on the nature of the intended workload, some organizations are more rigid than others regarding qualifications for interns. Applicants must have reliable housing on-Island, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to perform field work as well as the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
