The pitter patter of tiny footsteps echoed through downtown Oak Bluffs Sunday morning as youngsters from all over the Island scampered across the wooden Steamship Authority dock to compete in the annual Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby Kids’ Day.
Parents and children gathered at the Edgartown Lighthouse for the 13th annual Ceremony of Remembrance. At the base of the lighthouse, granite stones are engraved with the names of children who have died.
During a conversation Thursday at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, Andrew Moore reflected on his art career as part of a legacy that spans generations. The museum is featuring his work along with art by his daughter, Hannah, and his great-great grandfather N.A. Moore.
While holding their place for generally high academic performance, Vineyard public schools turned in mixed scores this year on the MCAS exam. Some schools showed new areas that need improvement, especially for low income and special needs students.
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission voted 10-3 Thursday in favor of a 3,920-square-foot expansion of the Alliance Community Church in Oak Bluffs. This puts to an end the church's long fight for an expansion, which brought out fierce opposition from abutters.
