Cross Country Invitational Is Summit for Runners from 14 Schools

Cross country runners representing 460 in all, competed in the seventh Annual Martha’s Vineyard Invitational Saturday at the regional high school. Bishop Feehan ran away with team wins in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions. The Vineyard as a team was seventh in 11.

Cross Country Junior Qualifies for All-State Meet

Junior Jeremy Alley-Tarter placed 14th in a field of 221 runners at last weekend’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association Eastern Divisional Cross Country Championship, held Saturday in Wrentham. Alley-Tarter finished with a time of 16:51 to lead the Vineyard contingent, which finished sixth of 32 teams in Divison 5. In the process, he qualified for the MIAA All-State Meet, which will be held tomorrow at Northfield Mount Hermon.

As Fall Sports Seasons Close, Tournament Play Opens Door

Football plays its second-to-last home game of the season tonight at 6:30 p.m., taking on Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Bishop Stang.

Boys’ soccer plays its first tournament game in an away game against Scituate Sunday at 3:30 p.m., and the varsity cross country runners compete in the Coaches’ Invitational this Saturday in Wrentham.

Cross Country Teams Build Dynasties

Unlike the world of professional sports, the concept of a dynasty is not often associated with high school athletics. Because students filter through the system every four years, the success of any high school team changes from year to year as players graduate and underclassmen move up take their place.

Cross Country Team Travels to All-State

The Vineyarders traveled to the MIAA All-State Championship in Boston last weekend, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing in 12th place in the Division Two meet.

Nineteen teams per side, the top cross-country squads in the state, competed in the race. The last time both Vineyard squads traveled to All-States was in 2004.
