Hockey After 50

Organizers would like to thank the four teams that competed in this year’s annual over-50s ice hockey tournament. After a grueling weekend of games the Mc Sticks beat out the Miracle Autobody team in a hair-raising shoot-out.

Let's Go Skating Now, Everybody's Learning How

For the past 40 years the Martha's Vineyard Ice Arena has been a gathering place for Island families, and a place where rink rats grew into hockey and figure skating stars. On Thursday, August 21, the Ice Savours benefit takes place at Farm Neck.

Rink Warriors to the Rescue

Our community has seen cutbacks, layoffs and appeals, and many who spend a large amount of their time at the rink are (in true Vineyard pioneering spirit) all too willing to help.

Family Skate

West Tisbury parks and recreation offers a free family skate session at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena.

On the Ice You Never Grow Old

This weekend, at the annual alumni hockey games, it was once again time for the old (and not so old) guard to dust off their skates and once again hit the ice at the Martha's Vineyard Arena.

Put Your Funds Up, Help Raise Leaky Roof

Beth O’Connor was nine years old when she began skating at the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena. At that time, the arena had just a roof, and players hung tarps around the sides in the winter to keep rain and snow off the ice. In 1992 the arena was enclosed for year-round skating and locker rooms were added to the building a few years later.

“I’ve watched the arena be cut and pasted together over the years,” Ms. O’Connor said. “It’s been great to see it grow.”

Figure Skating Show Dazzles on Silver Anniversary

They can fly, they feel pretty, they’re singing in the rain and on top of all that, they skate in a chorus line. The Martha’s Vineyard Figure Skating Club was on the ice at the Martha’s Vineyard Arena last weekend for its 25th anniversary show, A Skate Down Memory Lane.

Youth Hockey Season Ends with Tournament Win

Youth hockey season wrapped up last weekend with the Vineyard picking up a championship tournament trophy.

The Bantams, youth hockey’s oldest division (ages 13 and 14), defeated visiting Ludlow 6-1 in the final game of the annual Eric Maclean Tournament for the tournament win. The tournament was held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena.

Ice Arena Fundraiser

Eating for the ice, that’s what’s happening on Wednesday, March 20 at Eleven North in Edgartown. As part of the kickoff “Raise the Roof” campaign for the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena, the restaurant is donating 20 per cent of the proceeds of a prix-fixe, three-course meal to the arena. The cost for the dinner is $35.

Semi-Pro Hockey Comes to Ice Arena

Hockey fans can find temporarily relief from the NHL lockout this weekend as the Cape Cod Bluefins visit the Martha’s Vineyard Arena to host the Danville Dashers on Saturday night, Nov. 24. The puck drops at 6 p.m.

The Bluefins, who play in the single-A Federal Hockey League, last played at the arena in February. Vineyard varsity boys’ hockey assistant coach Max Sherman and JV coach Mick Vukota suited up for the team on one-game contracts in the Bluefins’ close 4-3 loss to the Danbury Whalers.
