Finding Neverland

Congratulations to everyone involved in the just-concluded, magnificent production of Peter Pan by the Island Theatre Workshop held at the Performing Arts Center at the regional high school.

Peter Pan Proves Again, Never Doubt You Can Fly

In the classic stage version of Peter Pan, Sandy Duncan flew across the stage with apparent ease. But she was a whippet of a woman who could fly if a strong wind blew through the theatre.

Island Theatre Workshop Follows the Yellow Brick Road With Ageless Cast

Director Kevin Ryan stands inside the Performing Arts Center at the regional high school rehearsing for the Island Theatre Workshop’s latest production.

“Munchkins!” he calls to the group of children sitting the front row of the theatre. The kids talk and giggle and tick-tock their feet.

“Does everyone have a hat tonight?” Mr. Ryan asks. “We’re going to start in a minute.”

Oh No, Toto, It's Casting Time Again

Kevin Ryan, vice president of Island Theatre Workshop, had one more round of auditions to do. The principals had been cast, as had most of the other roles for ITW’s upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz. Just one group remained: the munchkins.

A group of five children varying in age from second to sixth grade gathered around an out-of-tune piano to rehearse the chorus from Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead. Learning to pronounce the right words and follow the melody is key for the part. Some bravely belted out the tune while others sang shyly looking at the floorboard.

Island Theatre Workshop

The Island Theatre Workshop is headed to Pooh Corner. Well, Pooh Bear himself won’t be the main attraction but A. A. Milne is the man of the weekend. The woman of the weekend is Taffy McCarthy who directs this play based on works by Mr. Milne.

Theatrical Harvest Is Locally Grown

This weekend and next the Island Theatre Workshop is presenting its annual Pick of the Crop play series. As its name declares ITW is a community theatre group of and for the Island. All of its playwrights, directors and actors are amateurs. By this we mean not paid, rather than unskilled or inexperienced. Most players have appeared in numerous Island productions throughout the years and are familiar presences on stage.

Four Plays in One Program: ITW Raises Curtain on Two Weekends

Island Theatre Workshop’s second annual one-act festival opens Friday, March 14, at the Katharine Cornell Theatre.

Three directors will offer a program of four plays, all of which look at life with both humor and sadness.

Lee Fierro will be presenting two shows: Aria da Capa, by Edna St.Vincent Millay, and Extensions, by Murray Schisgal.
