Betsy Bell Baliunas was always intimidated to walk into the Box. The name didn’t help either. The Box didn’t look like your normal gym, Ms. Baliunas recalled. “Where are the machines? There are no machines. There’s a rope — what am I going to do with that?” she wondered.

New Equipment at Mansion House

Mansion House Health Club proudly offers new Lifecycle GX Group Exercise Bikes. Designed by Life Fitness, the company that brought you the original Lifecycle Equipment, this new state of the art exercise bike is biomechanically designed to ensure a comfortable yet effective workout. Carefully chosen and tested by Fitness Director Brenda Wallis, Lifecycle’s study of human movement and machine interaction impressed Ms. Wallis and she thinks this brand of bike stands at the head of any class.

Health Club Upgrades

The gym recently purchased new high-tech equipment, including elliptical units, treadmills, stationary bikes and crossover equipment with 19-inch touch screen displays that allow users to track fitness goals, surf the web, watch TV, check emails and connect to mobile devices while working out.

New Competitors in Oak Bluffs Gym

While all the classrooms are dark and quiet at 50 Tradewinds Road, the gymasium is the center of the media world on the Vineyard. “I think we’re going to call this Martha’s File Center,” White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said yesterday as he opened the first media briefing here. “I like it. A little warm.”
