Honored repeatedly over its long history, the Vineyard Gazette has received more than 65 journalism awards in the last three years alone from the New England Newspaper and Press Association.
The New England Better Newspaper Competition receives about 3,000 nominations each year in categories that span news reporting, commentary, photography, design, promotions and advertising. The distinguished panel of judges includes present and past editors, reporters and journalism educators.
For 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Gazette won the top award, first place for general excellence, among small weekly newspapers. Judges in 2012 called the newspaper “a delight to read” and in 2011, “an outstanding, fascinating weekly newspaper. Superb newspaper writing.”
Here is a selection of stories, photographs and designs that have been recognized by NENPA over the past several years.
